This may seem obvious but someone certainly does not want to turn their distribution system over to someone with bright pink hair, piercings all over, who is smacking gum obnoxiously during an interview. Regardless of how experienced the person may be, their first impression is certainly not speaking well for them. Anytime you are applying for a position in management of any form you really need to look good for the part. This means making sure you look clean cut and professional for the interview.

Another thing that is often forgotten about when someone is interviewing is staying up to date on topics. For example, in distribution management jobs, you need to be well aware of software and hardware that is relevant and what changes have been made recently, and of course what changes are expected in the near future. This will allow you to maximize your ability to impress your potential new boss with your knowledge. Make sure you are well aware of all new developments; this ensures that you can show exactly how you know what you are doing before you ever get started.

Learn how to use all relevant software that is commercially available. This may seem excessive but if you know how to use as many different types of software as possible, you are increasing your chance of being hired for the position. Businesses do not want to hire someone that they have to train for days or even weeks. They prefer someone who requires very little training to get started and knowing the software puts you into that position. You may have to pay for some classes on your own time in order to get the training you need, but you will find it is well worth the investment.

Another consideration you can think about is contact a company that you are interested in working for. Just because they are not actively recruiting and hiring does not mean they will not hire a suitable candidate who appears. There are numerous people who land jobs this way. If there is a position you want you must work to get it, and businesses that you desire to work for that are not actually hiring make great places to start because you can really use the opportunity to show off what you know, and how well you can do for the company.
